Background:
Sikkim is home to 48 species of fish. The great Himalayan Golden Mahseer, an angler’s dream catch, comes each summer to smaller streams to spawn. Catla is the other great fighter game fish found in the local rivers. The most ubiquitous local fish are the Asla. During the monsoon seasons one can also catch freshwater eels.

Government of Sikkim regularly stocks lakes and streams between 8,000 and 12,000ft with brown and rainbow trout. They are lured easily on plugs and spinners. Trout are therefore, great game fish for anglers at high altitudes.

Since Sikkim International Rhododendron Fest-2010 is being organized at a high altitude angling for trout is an opportunity for keen anglers and casual tourist who want to give it a try!
